General Dynamics – Best Investments for Defense
Leon Panetta is looking for a more technologically advanced military at lower costs. In order to do that, they will probably cut personnel, mostly among ground troops. Now that the war in Iraq is over and the one in Afghanistan is winding down, they will be able to do this. To take its place will be naval ships and air resources.
I think this move will be good for companies like General Dynamics (GD) and will make them one of the best investments for this year. Their current P/E is at 10.3. It doesn’t reflect the growth in earnings that I think is coming with this shift.
One of the proposed ideas by Panetta is to refit the Virginia class attack submarine. This is built by General Dynamics. They also have other weapons systems that they sell to the US military.
In addition, they will probably start selling our F-16 Falcon Fighter Jets to our allies.
